SFUSD Assignment Explorer V1
SFUSD Assignment Explorer · V1
Why this site exists

SFUSD is considering four different ways to assign elementary students. The policy language can be hard to translate into a simple family question: what would this mean for my child?

This independent site is not affiliated with or endorsed by SFUSD. This explainer uses six fictional kindergartners to make the tradeoffs more concrete. It separates what SFUSD has defined from questions that are still unresolved, and it will need to change as the district provides more answers. The site also gives families a way to say which tradeoffs matter to them and what SFUSD still needs to explain; I plan to share that feedback with district staff and the Board.

About the creator
Laurance Lee is a candidate for San Francisco Board of Education, a lifelong San Franciscan and SFUSD graduate who volunteers weekly with kindergartners and serves as Vice Chair of SFUSD’s Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. He built this explainer to help families follow a complicated public decision in plain English. This website was made with help from generative AI; policy facts and source links were reviewed against SFUSD materials.
